Author: Bill D. Ross

Bill D. Ross (1921–94) was an author and Marine Corps correspondent during the Second World War. Originally from Iowa, he worked as a news reporter and eventually became a war correspondent assigned to Iwo Jima. His experiences on Iwo Jima and during the rest of the war led Ross to write two widely-acclaimed books, Iwo Jima: Legacy of Valor (1985) and Peleliu: Tragic Triumph (1992). After returning from the War, Ross continued his career as a journalist, eventually authoring his own books. He retired to New Jersey with his wife and died at the age of 73.
